San Pedro de Atacama, Atacama Desert - Chile

Year Photographed
2017

Information
One of the best ways to see the Atacama is from above, and a hot air balloon is definitely the most accessible ways. The views afforded of the scenery, including Valle de la Luna to the west and the various volcano’s to the east that make up the Andes Mountains.

While it’s easy to be wrapped up in the distance scenery, the shapes in the dunes make for spectacular viewing below. Here a desert bush has been consumed by the red sand, the bush itself is the size of a small car. The shadows cast by the ripples in the dune resembled in my opinion the colouration of the nautilus shell.
