Location
Whalers Bay, Deception Island - Antarctica 2014

Information
Whalers bay is the location where the bulk of whale oil processing occurred in the 1800-1900, with these large silos housing the product until shipped out. The name Deception island eludes to the harsh reality that you might think it’s a safe location, but the reality is, whalers bay is in the heart of an active volcano that continues to regularly erupt.

This base has been abandoned several times, and ultimately permanently form scientific purpose in the mid 1900’s due to ongoing volcanic activity. Not much remains of the buildings, but what does has either been partially demolished by the weather, eruptions or oxidation.
